7 Things to Tell Yourself When Going Through Difficulties

Sometimes talking to ourselves is the best motivation

We all go through difficulties in life and sometimes we struggle to cope with these setbacks.  We try to look for that glimmer of hope that would take us out of the rut.  Sometimes it helps to try having a conversation with yourself for you to get a better perspective and get your motivation up.

Here are 7 things you can tell yourself to keep you in the game and get you back on track.

  1. This too shall pass

Whatever adversity you’re facing whether you’re deep in debt, you lost a loved one, or your business didn’t work out, time will come when all of this would just go away.  It may be tomorrow, next week, next month, or even ten years from now.  What’s important is you know in yourself that you can survive this ordeal and that you are affirming that you won’t be staying in this situation for long.

  1. Everything’s going to be alright

You are where you are and there’s nothing you can do to take it back.  Even though it’s hard to keep a positive attitude during the trying times, the one thing you should not lose is HOPE.  Saying this helps you keep your focus and helps get you out of panic mode.

  1. I can beat this

If you’re going to get out of the mess you’re in, you need to have not only the drive but the confidence to actually do it.  Telling yourself that you can overcome the hurdles gives you more confidence.  You are also setting a goal for yourself in the process.

  1. God won’t give me something I cannot surpass

Everyone goes through trials.  Trials that God has put in our paths to test our faith.  These are tests that will take us to our limits and in most cases, help us decide how strong our faith is both in God and in our capabilities.

  1. Something good will come out of this

Having a positive attitude will come a long way when dealing with adversity.  Seeing failure as motivation instead of defeat will make you deal with the situation better.  Always remember that successful people experience failure multiple times before they got to where they are.

  1. After a few years, I will just be laughing at this

Take your confidence to the next level by imagining yourself a few years from now having defeated adversity not only by surpassing it but even laughing at it.

If you’re in debt, don’t just look to pay it all off.  Go the extra mile by paying it off and doubling your income.  If your business failed, don’t just look to make it work.  Make it work and make it successful.

  1. I’ve surpassed other difficulties before, why should this be any different?

Knowing that you’re capable of overcoming adversity increases your morale.  You surely have experienced solving your own problems before so whether what you’re facing now is bigger or smaller doesn’t really matter.  The fact that you’ve done it makes it more than possible that you can do it again.

Whatever problems you are facing, it’s always important to remind yourself that only you have the power and the ability to get yourself out of the mess you are in.  It’s not the end of the world.  There’ll always be hope as long as you still live.
