Begin Each Morning with a Positive Mindset

Mornings: Setting your momentum the right way

For many of us, mornings signify the start of a busy day.  Dads are up early to catch the morning news while taking a cup of coffee.  Moms are busy helping the kids prepare their things before the school bus arrives.  Young professionals are on their laptops checking their emails.  Some take the time to go for a quick run around the neighborhood.  Whatever our rituals are, the crucial part lies on the mindset we are in for this will dictate how the rest of our day will turn out to be.

If you hate your job and you’re literally dragging yourself to work, I’m pretty sure you already have an idea how your day will unfold.  You’re grumpy, irritable, and you feel like nothing’s going well for you.  You keep checking your watch, hoping that five o-clock will come early to rescue you so you can go home and be the same, disgruntled employee tomorrow.

I used to be this person.  I go to sleep at night dreading the morning’s arrival because I have to go back to the one place I hated the most.  I wish I could take that back.  No matter how much we hate our jobs or whatever predicament we are in, it is still up to us how we would like our day to be.  We dictate how it unfolds.  Thus, the name of this blog, Life’s How You Live It.  And just like what I mentioned in my previous post, we need to learn to see the good in everything for us to have peace of mind.

I have since changed my ways.  I now wake up with anticipation and excitement every morning.  Below are a few tips you can get by so you can have a good day ahead.

1. Begin the day with a prayer.  As soon as you open your eyes, talk to God and thank Him that you’re still alive to enjoy this day.  Thank him for being given the opportunity to still be with your family and for everything you have now.

2. Have a few moment of silence.  Emptying your mind while doing breathing exercises will get you in the right mood.  It doesn’t have to be long.  Five to ten minutes should be good enough.

3. Exercise.  We feel better and more energetic if we get the right amount of exercise in the morning.  You can either run or do some yoga or whatever it is that will stretch the muscles.

4. Have a healthy breakfast.  Working with an empty stomach is bad so make sure to fill your tummy with enough food to keep you going.

5. Listen to inspirational/motivational songs or podcasts.  Getting the right motivation while on commute will get you in the right mindset.  I recommend listening to Joel Osteen or Sam Crowley who are both truly inspiring.  If you’re not into podcasts, listen to upbeat and fast music to perk you up.

How our day turns out heavily depend on us ourselves.  If you decide to be negative, you will be miserable each and every day and you will bring this negativity home and affect your relationship with your family.  Choose to be positive and you’ll live a life of peace and happiness.  It’s all up to you.
