Why you should adapt a positive mindset

positive mindset

Do you remain positive despite the difficulties life brings?

How can having a positive mindset help you?

I used to be affected in a big way when people say bad things about me.  Whenever I hear negative comments, I get disappointed and have this urgent need to disprove whatever I was being accused of because as far as I’m concerned, I am the friendliest person you can find.  Apart from being disappointed, deep inside, I also wanted to get back at these people and throw garbage back but with the recent changes I made in my life, I now realize how stupid and immature I was.

I should have just ignored them and pay no attention to whatever was being said about me.  I had that choice and I chose to react negatively toward the situation.

There is always a choice and this choice is entirely up to us.  We have full control of how we would react to everything that happens in our lives.  Choosing to have a positive mindset is always the better choice.   While it’s normal to experience disappointments time and again, staying disappointed for a long time is something we must all learn to avoid.

It’s not the circumstance that determines the outcome, but it’s how you respond

Life happens and it can bring us just about anything we could ever imagine.  There will be good days and there will also be bad days and no one is exempted.  If a negative circumstance comes your way more often and you respond to it negatively all the time, you’ll always stay discouraged.  You will always find a way to blame each and every circumstance that comes your way for being miserable.

Adapting a positive mindset however gets you out of frustration because there is hope and something good to look forward to.

If every time you look at your bills you feel like there’s no way out of it for you and that you’ll probably never get out of debt, why not think the opposite and tell yourself that this is not an insurmountable setback and that you can be debt-free in a year or two?

As Murphy’s Law states: “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.”

Difficulties are temporary

Part of having a positive mindset is to always tell yourself that setbacks are all temporary.  No one stays in trouble or difficulty for a long time – unless you allow yourself to be.  We all go through a phase when everything seems to not go the way we expect them to and this is perfectly normal.  The best way to deal with it is to accept the situation as it is, think of ways to get out of it, and take action.

Dwelling on the problem will only invite negative energy which, instead of getting you out of the situation, will only pull you down deeper.  Live each day to the fullest.  You may be in a lot of trouble today, but tomorrow will be different.

Words are meaningless unless you grant it power over you

People can say the nastiest things about you and try to bring you down but whether they will succeed largely depends on how you react.  If you put so much weight on what other people say, you are allowing them to take over your life.  You’ll get depressed and lose your self-esteem and you’ll end up always wondering what else they might be saying about you.

Whenever you hear negative things about you, the best reaction is to have no reaction.  Ignore them and keep in mind that you cannot please everybody.  As long as what you’re doing is right and just, you don’t have to worry about what other people say against you.

Life without problems is like a school without classes

I’m not sure about you but I haven’t met anyone who didn’t have a problem.  Even the richest people in this world who can buy just about anything with a snap of their fingers has problems.  Problems exist because life exists.  Imagine how boring life will be without problems.

For the negative person, problems present adversity, suffering and defeat but for the optimists, problems are keys to improvement.  We all learn life’s lessons through the problems we face.  It should make us stronger and wiser and not put us down.

It’s not the end of the world

There are many of us who, when faced with big adversity, react as if there’s no tomorrow and like it’s the end of everything.  Difficulties, problems, setbacks are all part of life.  We are all bound to encounter them at some point in our lives and we may even encounter them more than once.  The one thing we should always have and never lose is hope.  Even if the odds are against you, a small amount of hope will take you a long way because for every problem, there is a solution.

Having a positive mindset has truly helped me especially in the most trying times of my life, some of them, I’m still going through as we speak and through this article, I hope it does help you too.

Great article about viewing adversity and life the right away: through the lens of positivity.

Many a great problem breaks down into much more manageable pieces when you try to view the positive in it and when you do this by facing the problem head on instead of avoiding it.

thanks for your comment Dain! Yes, it is very true and I am guilty of being a quitter before and after making the changes I recently made, I learned that being positive really does work. It may not solve the problem immediately but it does help you reach a solution without feeling miserable.

Excellent advice Noel – and great insights Dain!

And I think making a positive mindset part of our daily operating program is even more important than it ever was. When you think of how connected all 7 billion of us are now, there is no way we’re going to escape criticism, so it’s vital to learn to handle it well.

And when we operate from a positive state of mind, we can see the opportunities in adversity. As you say Noel, negativity only allows us to see the painful parts.

Completely agree Pamina! We cannot control our circumstance but we can control our response to them by feeding our minds with positive thoughts.
