There’s a Right Time for Everything

right time

There’s a right time for everything but it doesn’t always come when you expect it the most

“Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind.”
― David G. Allen

My impatience has put me in a bad situation more times than I could ever remember.  I’m the kind of guy who wants something done or get something the soonest time possible.  I don’t wanna wait long.  I just want to get it over with ASAP.  Sorry, but I am stubborn that way.

As if I’ve never learned my lesson, I still make the same mistake from time-to-time.  I remember this one time when I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this pair of basketball shoes.  I’ve salivated over it for a couple of days before getting them.  I can already imagine how it would look like wearing it and how popular I’m going to be with my friends for sporting them.

Unfortunately, the color I was looking for was out of stock when I went to the mall to buy it.  I could have waited for a week or two until the color becomes available but my impatience has gotten the best of me.  Long story short, I still bought the shoes even if it wasn’t the color I wanted from the beginning.  At first it was all good.  I was contented with my purchase and there was absolutely no ounce of regret lingering inside of me.  Well, at least not yet.

Fast forward a week after, I happen to pass by the same mall and lo and behold, the color I was looking for, the subject of my daydream and the one I was craving for was already available!  I tried to convince myself that I was good and all but who am I kidding?

I was smiling and shaking my head at the sight of it but at the back of my mind, I was yelling WHY????

The Right Time

There’s a right time for everything.  That’s exactly what I learned from this experience.  Even though we have control of what we want to happen, sometimes, things just happen at the right time and all you can do is be thankful.

Prior to losing my job this past month, I was already sending out resumes right and left in the hope of transferring to another company.  I knew that my job may eventually come to an end and that it may come unexpectedly like a thief in the night so why wait?  Besides, I didn’t really like what I was doing and I don’t like the pressure and the stress it brings but a friend told me otherwise.

This friend gave me the opposite advice.  He told me to stick around instead and I didn’t see it at first but he made me realize that sometimes you need to set the emotions aside and be smart about it.  He made me realize the advantage of waiting for the end than avoiding it.

We had that conversation a year ago and I am so glad I listened to him.  Waiting for judgment day gave me more leverage because of the severance package I received which would have been much less if I resigned and that’s just the beginning.

I’ve dreamed of going freelance for the longest time but I wasn’t too keen of taking the risk because we didn’t have the savings to back me up for when I’m in between projects and it just seems so not secured unlike corporate. This redundancy gave me the chance to finally jump in.  This whole thing about losing my job forced me to go ahead and I’m not complaining.  I am actually thankful that it had to come to this for me to muster the courage to start my freelancing career.

It was as if everything just fell in to place at the right moment.  I’m tired of corporate.  I’m tired of the everyday traffic I had to go through.  I’m tired of coming to work and being away from my family.  What I want is to be able to work when I want to and be able to do it in the comfort of my home where my kids can just call my attention if they need anything.  The opportunity to make them all happen is here and it all happened because I didn’t make the mistake of getting to eager this time.

Boy am I glad that  I waited!

I love where I am at right now.  Perhaps more than when I was in my “secured” job (come on we all know it’s a myth!).  I love what I do, I have time to exercise, I have time for the family and I have better use of my skills.  I am at the right place at the right time!

So is there a right time for everything?

Yes there is, but we can’t really tell when the right time is going to be.  Sometimes it just happens and when you’re in the moment, that’s when you realize that it is the perfect time.

    Hey Noel,

The importance of patience should be realized by every individual. Patience in life can make them reach out for the stars. With patience you can avoid making hasty decisions. Life is not about living in the future or in the past. Life is about accepting the present moment. To shape your talents and inborn abilities into real achievements, you must have patience.

To master any art or to enhance your talent, you need to make continuous effort for a long time. To achieve your dreams, you must have the zeal to overcome challenges and the power to overcome roadblocks comes only from patience. Eventually, thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    With best wishes,

    Amar kumar
