Burden in the Blessing: Do You Recognize Them?

Every blessing comes with a burden.

“Happiness is not the absence of problems, it’s the ability to deal with them.”

Burden Behind Blessings

Will all these problems ever go away?

You’ve probably asked that question a thousand times as I have but never really got an answer.  Yes, you may get a break from time-to-time like a week or a month but soon after, another problem presents itself and you’re back to the same question when you feel like you can’t take it anymore.

I can’t blame you from feeling that way.  I’ve felt that way many times and I just came to a point where I learned to deal with it and not complain and feel bad about it,

The problem actually lies with us and not with the circumstances that we face because like it or not, these hardships and difficulties, these burdens, well, they’re part of our lives!

Don’t act surprised because we’ve all known this for quite a long time now.  We are all aware that we’ll be facing problems throughout the rest of our lives.  Hell, we even face burdens with the blessings we receive!

Let me dive deeper and explain.

Remember when you used to dream about that promotion or about having children?  You were so excited you barely slept.  You were so eager to finally receive these blessings that you’ve dreamed about and when they finally arrive, you suddenly realize the HUGE responsibilities that come with being a manager or being a parent.

You didn’t expect the difficulty of managing people, satisfying clients, and the humongous pile of tasks you need to complete everyday as the leader of your team.  You weren’t ready to wake up in the middle of the night to feed your newborn baby and still be able to work the following morning.

This is what I’m trying to say.  Problems will always be around and every blessing comes with its own burden and if your happiness depends on being problem-free then there’s never going to be a time when you’d be happy.

Get Into the Right Mindset

The first thing you need is to have the right mindset.  But what is the right mindset?

Well, you have to get into a place where you fully accept all the aspects of your life and yes, that includes the negative.  You have to live with the mindset that life is a journey and that every journey will have its share of bumps and bruises and that these obstacles wouldn’t stop you from reaching your destination.

It;s not the destination but the journey that counts and for it to count you have to enjoy it no matter how rough the road may be.

Be Happy No Matter What

Happiness should never be conditional.  You can’t always put a price on happiness because it’s what makes life worth living and it’s your ticket to success.  You can’t always say “I’ll be happy if…” or “I’ll be happy when…” because if that’s how you’re living your life, you’re not doing it right.

It’s natural to feel bad or get worried when you’re carrying a huge burden.  I mean, of course you’ll feel that way but like I said earlier, you have to enjoy the journey.  You still have to live a happy existence.  Your disappointments and regrets should all be temporary.  Once you’ve shrugged them off and you’re back at your feet, that feeling of joy and gratitude should still be there.

Manage Your Expectations

Life will not always be a bed of roses.  Even when we meet our goals or receive blessings, you have to expect that there will be responsibilities attached to them and that it doesn’t end there.  Each blessing, each milestone will be followed by its own burden and it’s not so much as negative-thinking is.  It’s more of being realistic because that’s how expectations should be in the first place.

Have a Sense of Humor

Have you ever heard of the saying, “laugh at your problems”?

This is one of the things I’ve incorporated in my life and it’s made wonders for me since.  I’m not saying that you don’t take life seriously but when it comes to your problems and burden, you’d have to be able to just laugh it out.  It may be painful at first but sooner or later you’ll just be looking back at them and laughing at them.

You have to learn to laugh at your mistakes and the difficulties you meet because if you take them seriously and I mean wayyyyy seriously, you’ll be miserable and it goes downhill from there.

Just Be Thankful

Life is not just about burden and adversity.  You may have a lot of them but I’m pretty sure you have more people and things in your life that you are thankful for.  Why not focus on them instead?

The fact that you’re alive and you’re reading this wonderful blog post is reason enough to be grateful.  Not everyone’s as lucky as you.  You may be having money issues now but other people have worse.  Some have nothing to eat, some are terminally ill, so what are you complaining about?

Over to You

Are you facing a huge burden right now?  How are you dealing with it?

I would love to hear from you.  Let me know, leave a comment or share a story.  There’s nothing I would like to do more than to help you overcome the negative things that are happening in your life.

I think managing your expectations is very important. All too often, I get excited over a small victory and then immediately meet an obstacle. Or I think a project is going to be much quicker and easier than it actually turns out to be (which happens basically every time). Sometimes I get frustrated when these pitfalls happen, but I remind myself to take pleasure in the process and to view everything as a learning experience.

That’s good to hear Kate! Charge every failure or obstacle to experience. No use in regretting or crying over spilled milk so they say. Each and every event in our lives, positive or negative, has its purpose and it’s all up to us how we look at them.
