You can do it

you can do it

You can do it

These are the words my father told me back in high school when I joined a news-writing competition.  I never expected to win in news-writing because my forte was sports-writing but the contest required that we join three categories so I chose news-writing and editorial cartooning to complete the requirement.  By the end of the contest, it was a surprise that I won first place not in sports-writing, not in editorial-cartooning, but in news-writing.  The one I thought I never had a chance of winning.

Sometimes, we tend to limit ourselves with what we can do.  We always hear the words “Oh I can’t do this, I’m not talented enough” or “I can’t do this because I’m not as good as you are” which I admit I am guilty of at times.  If we’re doing it out of humility, I guess that would be a good excuse but if we actually mean it when we say it, that’s a different story.

If we behave like this, we will have difficulty reaching our goals and achieving our dreams because we’re already setting a limit to what we can do.  We need to be more confident.  Nothing is impossible.  If we work hard enough and put our minds to the task at hand, what we thought is impossible is actually attainable.

Self-doubt will not do us any good.  Self-confidence will take us places.

Chris Gardner, the man whose life was the basis of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness was at one point in his life homeless.  When he started his career as a stockbroker, he had zero knowledge but he was determined.  He had a dream, a plan for the future that he strive to make.  With pure hard work and dedication, he was able realize his dream and even got to set up his own brokerage firm.

Success is not achieved overnight.  It requires will, determination, dedication, and faith most of all.  If you will dream, dream big.  We all have unlimited potential within us.  Sometimes we just need to accept that fact because it is also us who sets a limit to what we can do.

Stop coming up with excuses and do what you have to do.  You can do it.  If you are dreaming to become a programmer, you can do it.  Read all the books and reference materials you can find, learn through the internet.  If you want to become an artist, start drawing.  You can do it.  Watch other artists at work and get some tips on how they achieved success in their chosen craft.  If you want to become an entrepreneur, go for it.  Plan the business that you want carefully by studying the risks involved and the techniques that will help you earn money out of it.

We all must have a vision of what we want to become.  The next step is taking action in achieving this vision.
